Equity indices began the week on a positive note, closing higher for the second consecutive session on August 7. The Nifty ended near 19,600 with support from sectors such as information technology, healthcare, and realty stocks.

At the end of the trading day, the Sensex was up 232.23 points or 0.35 percent at 65,953.48, while the Nifty gained 80.30 points or 0.41 percent to reach 19,597.30.

Despite mixed global cues, the market opened in positive territory and experienced some profit booking at higher levels during the first half of the day. However, increased buying activity in the latter half helped the indices close near their peak levels for the day.

Notable gainers on the Nifty included Divis Laboratories, Mahindra & Mahindra, SBI Life Insurance, LTIMindtree, and Adani Ports. On the other hand, Britannia Industries, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, State Bank of India, and Axis Bank were among the top losers.

Among the sectors, both the healthcare and information technology indices saw a 1 percent increase, while the realty index grew by 0.5 percent. However, the PSU Bank index witnessed a decline of 0.6 percent.
