The domestic benchmark indices exhibited a steady performance on the trading day, with the BSE  Mid-cap index showing a gain of 0.57%, and the BSE Small-cap index registering an increase of 0.53% on September 7, 2023.

During the prior trading session on Thursday, the benchmark indices remained relatively flat, with the Sensex edging up by approximately 30 points or 0.03%, reaching 65,891, while the Nifty-50 saw a marginal uptick of about 5 points or 0.01%, reaching 19,615. On the BSE, there were 2,168 advancing shares, 1,175 declining shares, and 161 shares that remained unchanged.

 Taking a closer look at the top performers and laggards on the BSE Sensex Index:

 Leading the pack among Sensex gainers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd, Tech Mahindra Ltd, and Tata Steel Ltd.

Meanwhile, the top Sensex losers included Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharmaceuticals Ltd, and Ultratech Cements Ltd.

Among the sectorial indices, the BSE Capital Goods Index showed the most robust performance, surging by 1.40%. This was primarily driven by companies like Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and CG Power & Industrial Solutions Ltd. On the other hand, the BSE Utilities Index experienced a decline of 0.15%, with Adani Energy Solutions Ltd and Va Tech Wabag Ltd being the major contributors to the dip.

 In the broader markets, both the BSE Mid-cap and BSE Small-cap indices recorded gains of 0.57% and 0.53%, respectively. Notable mid-cap gainers included PB Fintech Ltd and Yes Bank, while Cochin Shipyard Ltd and Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd led the small-cap segment in terms of gains.

 In the pre-opening session, the following three stocks were trending: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, Cochin Shipyard Ltd, and Varroc Engineering Ltd.
